The characters in these drawings are Christopher Hart originals interpreted by me as I work through his book, Modern Cartooning: Essential Techniques for Drawing Today’s Popular Cartoons.
I tend to avoid characters in my drawing due to lack of skill, but my imagination is rife with them. I can’t be a good illustrator if I can’t incorporate people into my images. My choice for cartoon characters is due to personal taste only.
Chapter 1: Basic Head Shape has a single section titled The Circle. Hart says much personality can be drawn with few details and simple shapes. Therefore, he starts off the book with round heads.
